Find The Hidden Mickey

Posted by Shemah Sham | 1/29/2011 05:20:00 PM in ,,| 0 comments

My daughter is obsessed with Mickey Mouse (like any other child her age) and when she saw this picture of this tv stand, she has been pestering me NON STOP to buy it. I honestly don't know how long it will take for me to go crazy -- what with watching Playhouse Disney almost every hour of the day with a Playhouse Disney-looking tv stand like this!

What type of tv stands do YOU go for? I prefer heavy oak stands that are homey compared to the clean contemporary style people go for these days.

My "Foursquare" Report

Right now, I am sitting at Dell Cafe, a cafe located within my condo building -- especially for residents. Yes, people that's how I'm spending my Saturday!

These guys are amazing at letting me use up their internet bandwidth because I'm always hanging around here for a good "roti canai and teh tarik kurang manis". A staple for most Malaysians.

They have a big ASS LCD HDTV mounted on the wall and most of the patrons right now are watching the Australian Open.. (as of an hour ago). I don't know what's playing right now because I'm sitting inside. Too many smokers outside. Ciggie smoke make me dizzy. We secondhand smokers get it bad too lah!

The kids are with me right now.. and they're taking candy from the counter like nobody's business and I don't know what my tab looks like right now... Gotta go and put a stop to this before I end up having to trade in my laptop for my tab! LOL!

Later, guys!

Hard Times

During this economic downturn, this good thing I have going -- the "stay at home mom" thing, is proving to be tough for my family, financially. I can't really afford this luxury of not working. I can't even call "making money blogging" work anymore, because there is hardly any work nowadays. Not that I'm complaining about what little work that I DO have.

These are hard times for some of us. The reason I don't go out and work because I honestly don't trust anyone else to take care of my children when I go out and work. The only person I trust is my own family, which is like 2000 miles away. So what am I to do?

One of my best friends suggest I try my hand at a sales career with a reputable insurance agency. The reason? She says she's always sold on everything I say. LOL! Bless her heart.. :) I just don't think I'm cut out for that..

However, I do have to figure out something soon.. I sure would like to keep my promise to my son and have a vacation in Singapore this year.. and maybe enjoy a concert or two. I heard Michael Buble, Maroon 5, Justin Bieber, Bruno Mars, etc are making their way to our shores soon...

How about you guys? How are the economic times treating you?

The Handyman Can

I am so grateful that my husband is such a handyman. Our kitchen sink went haywire the other day and we woke up to find our kitchen semi flooded. It took only about 10 minutes for my husband to access the situation and off he went to the store to get a new tap, got his toolbox from the car and VOILA! Everything was back to normal. Silly old me thought we needed a hydraulic hose to pump the water out. LOL!

Now, our grill door gate has a problem with the keyhole. The latch got too flimsy and before I knew it, he already took out his toolbox and took the whole keyhole thing out and went to the store in search of that particular spare part. I didn't even know they sold those things. Apparently they do, and it's so in demand because it's out of stock. So for the past few days, it's been quite dangerous that we're living only by padlock and without a proper keyhole on our grill door. Hopefully today, we find a hardware store that carries the spare part.

I know most guys can access the situation and find out what's wrong.. but it's another thing to have someone who can actually FIX it. :)

Wedding and Gift Favors

I was on the search for some wedding favors when I was helping my future sister-in-law plan her wedding for this coming March. I found some really cute ones at Tropicana Mall, from a store called Storybook. Basically their business revolves around custom printing to give as gifts for anniversaries, weddings, birthday, etc.

They do invitations, calendars, notebooks and even small favors such as the "Tea of Love", matchboxes and fragrance pouches. quite a liking to the "Tea of Love". It's a favor that you can give to your guests -- which is basically a tea bag with a custom print packaging for it. It's cute really.. Simple but nice. The Tea of Love cost about RM5 each if I'm not mistaken.

The ones below are a sample of the fragrance pouch.

But I guess if you really had good skills with Photoshop, an eye for digital scrapbooking and had one of those really fancy laser printers, maybe you can do this yourself too.

Designer iPhone/Blackberry Cases

Nowadays, It's safe to say that 7 out of 10 people carry an iPhone/Blackberry/Android. I, unfortunately, am not one of them. I am the 3 out of 10 people who are still stuck on their old non-wifi phone. Boo hoo.

Anyways, whenever I'm out and about and see someone whip out their phone, I like checking out people's cell phone cases. Some are really funky and cool, that you can't just help but wonder where they got it from.

My sister told me she was eye-ing a cell phone case by Kate Spade that was pretty awesome. For those of you looking for designer cell phone casings, check out what I found on the Fashion Bomb Daily.

Top Row: Nancy Gonzalez Crocodile Iphone Case, $381. Pierre Hardy Cube Perspective Blackberry Case, $86 . Hermès Iphone 3G Case, $250.
Middle Row: Bottega Veneta Blackberry Case, $350. Diane von Furstenberg Iphone Case, $25. Louis Vuitton Monogram Smartphone Holder, $203.
Bottom Row: AnOther Iphone Case by Gareth Pugh, $65. Fendi Iphone Holder, $49. Ed Hardy – Fuchsia Tiger iPhone Case, $25.

For those who like designer cell phone casings but aren't willing to pay THAT much, well, I'm sure you can find a lot at Petaling Street. But remember, haggle safely! LOL! :D

Out and About

It's the 4th day of the New Year... and so far I HAVEN'T been working out yet -- unless you count all the walking around shopping malls for hours and carrying the tons of shopping bags for my mom and sister. It's just so hard having them around. Sure, I love that they're here.. it's just that, all the spare time I have, I use to clean up the house, do the laundry and the basics. Other times, my mom needs me to bring her here and there and everywhere.

The sale ended on the 2nd of January, 2011 so I'm hoping my mom will slow down now that the sale is over. My kid sister ended up with 5 pairs of shoes and my mom with 2 pairs.. and not to mention the bags and mountain of clothes. Oh I have no idea how they're going to pack up everything back to KK. I'm just glad that I don't have to worry about that!

As for me, I'm patting myself on the back for being able to resist all that shopping and just ending up with 1 nice blouse. Instead of bags and shoes or clothes, I was more interested in fitness equipment and accessories, to be honest with you. But from what I heard, refurbished fitness equipment from gyms that closed down are going way cheaper. I think you can get them on Lelong.com.my.

How about you guys? What have you done in the first 4 days of 2011??

p/s: Oh and did I mention that we went to the Peter Pan the Musical on the 1st of Jan?? It was such a fun experience for the kids!
