Custom Cardboard Boxes

Many businesses nowadays resort to marketing online to spread the news about their businesses. Whether it's online businesses or regular businesses, this is the trend that many people speak to. However, you need to remember that you need to cater for those people who don't spend their time online.

Yes.. there are still many out there who don't go online. Just take my husband, for example. So what do you do when you don't have enough cash or capital to market your brand for commercials or highway billboards?

So if you've got shipping involved in your business, packaging is most important. Put your brands on your packaging. Show support to "going green" and forgo the plastic. Use custom cardboard boxes instead.

Boxes big or small make great marketing.. people need them all the time. For storage, for packing, for moving..

I'm planning to start a business in the future and you can bet that this is definitely one of MY marketing strategies!

Car Talk From A Non Car Person

Posted by Shemah Sham | 4/21/2010 03:00:00 PM in ,| 0 comments

When I look at cars, I don't ooohh aahhh, drool, or hyperventilate when I see one. Simply put, I'm not into cars. However, that doesn't mean that I don't appreciate a beautiful car when I see one. Just a couple of days ago, my husband and I were stuck in the jam and a Porsche 911 Carrera was right in front of us.

Yes, all those reactions I stated earlier was literally describing my husband. I also have to say, it's a real beauty, but I don't react to it. I guess because it's because I don't drive. Maybe if I did, I'd show more interest. So even if I did find the treasures of Monte Cristo, I don't think I'll get a Porsche. Although I'll have to ask my driver a.k.a. husband if he'll want one.

But I know my husband.. as much as he drools over sports cars, classic cars is his love. If he were to buy a "modern" car so to speak, he would pick a 4WD.. or maybe a nice shiny pick up truck like the Dodge Ram. It's more his style..

IF I were able to drive, I think I'll fit the stereotype of soccer moms driving a suburban car like a Kia Rondo. What about you guys? What's your dream car?

Getting The Perfect Haircut

Posted by Shemah Sham | 4/20/2010 11:41:00 PM in | 0 comments

For some people, haircuts mean getting their hair trimmed every 4-6 weeks. While for others, haircuts mean getting a whole new makeover after doing nothing to your hair for the past 6-8 months. I'm more of the latter I think, although I'm not that brave to get a whole new makeover.

For me, the problem is not being able to find a hairstylist I'm comfortable with and that understands my hair well. Almost always I don't get the cut that I want and the last time I went to a hair saloon, I not only came out paying so much, but I also ended up with an "almost mullet". >.< I never thought a simple trim could be screwed up, but apparently I was wrong.

Anyways, if you're planning to do a whole new makeover, you might want to check out InStyle's Hollywood Makeover application where you can try out the latest Celebrity Hairstyles and see whether it suits you! Or not. All you have to do is upload your picture and try on all the celebrity looks! Just like the example below:

At least by doing so, you won't have to traumatize yourself and get a haircut that you hate and spend the next few months hiding your locks under a cap. By using this application you can try on the latest celebrity hairstyle trends from wavy locks, bangs, curly, short, straight, etc. Even if you're not planning to change your 'do, it's still very fun to play around with.

Once you do get the hairstyle of your choice, you still have to bring it over to your hairstylist and make sure he/she gets the hairstyle down. As for myself, I am gonna be doing another makeover right before my birthday just like I did last year. If I manage to lose a couple of lbs by then, I might wanna try out some curly locks! LOL! But first, I've got to go check it out at InStyle first to see how I'd look like! :)

Getting SEO Service For Your Blog

Posted by Shemah Sham | 4/20/2010 04:22:00 PM in ,| 0 comments

Blogs are a great form of expression and over the years, more and more people resort to blgoging. Many blogs out there focus on a certain genre, whether it's political, entertainment, web designs, mobile technology, shopping, etc. However, one thing's for sure, bloggers want their blogs to get noticed. Some bloggers try hard more than others to get their blogs noticed and gain traffic while others just don't care about such things.

There are also some bloggers out there who want to cash in on the big time and go to the extent of hiring SEO (Search Engine Optimization) services to make their blogs more noticeable in the world wide web.

For those who are trying to promote products for an online business store and find it hard competing with other thousands of related online stores, then you might think of hiring SEO services for your site. Sites such as DiscountClick do offer such services. Like many sites, they offer link building services to get more links pointing to your site to increase your search engine link popularity for a monthly fee. Just make sure you hire someone with reputable service and good testimonials.

As for myself, I'm blogging for fun and although I'd love to get a good PageRank, it isn't the main factor for me to blog. It's all about expressing myself and sharing information with my readers!

Getting Insured Online

Posted by Shemah Sham | 4/20/2010 05:09:00 AM in | 0 comments

For most people, they avoid: nosy next door neighbors, telemarketers and life insurance agents. I don't know about you, but I'm one of those people. Weird considering I've worked as a telemarketer once. Although most of the time, all I did was make calls to my friends. No, our conversations were not recorded.

As for nosy next door neighbors, living in a condo unit kind of eliminates that problem. No one peering over the fence checking out your purchases. As for life insurance agents, though, as hard as I try avoiding them, well, my best friend's mom is one and she'll call me from time to time.

If you don't want to deal with your life insurance agents knocking on your door, there's always the choice of checking out term life insurance quotes online instead. Take FinancialOne.com for instance. You can compare life insurance rates at the click of a button without having to pretend to pay attention to what your agent has to say. It doesn't get better than that!

That way you're sure to get the right insurance plan for yourself and your family at the best rates!

MM: Wonderwall - Ryan Adams

Posted by Shemah Sham | 4/20/2010 01:23:00 AM in ,| 0 comments

For this week's Music Monday, I decided to feature Ryan Adam's version of the Oasis's 1995 hit song Wonderwall. This song was featured in one of the last few episodes of Season 3 of Brothers and Sisters.

I love this version by Ryan Adams because it's beautiful and haunting.. and there's just a depth of emotion there that I can feel when he sings this song. I love both versions though.. Anyways, I hope you take a listen and let me know your thoughts..

Happy listening and have a great week ahead!

Mom's Bunk House

Posted by Shemah Sham | 4/13/2010 08:06:00 AM in ,,,| 0 comments

My son has been sleeping with my husband and I ever since he was born. When my daughter was born, things just needed to change because there was no way that I could have both children sleeping on the bed.

The only way to get my son interested in “moving out” was getting a bunk bed! I can so understand that because as a child, I was really really into bunk beds. It just seemed fun and I think the ladder just made it feel like a tree house inside the room. I just loved it. So I can’t blame my son for wanting one too!

The twin bunk beds at Mom’s Bunk House looks really great because the steps are unlike the typical conventional bunk beds and it looks much safer and the design is just more beautiful! There’s even a storage cabinet! Now that my daughter is turning 3 years old, it’s high time for me to invest in a really great bunk bed from Mom’s Bunk House!!

MM: Imagine - David Archuleta @ American Idol

Posted by Shemah Sham | 4/12/2010 12:00:00 AM in | 0 comments

I have always loved David Archuleta's version of Imagine (originally by John Lennon) that he sung back in Season 7. I was so happy to see him perform again during the results show of American Idol last week. This song always makes me feel content and his voice is just so soothing and enchanting and I hope it rids you of your Monday blues..

Happy Music Monday, everyone!!

Dinnerware Woes!

Posted by Shemah Sham | 4/11/2010 12:50:00 PM in ,,| 0 comments

When I started setting up my home when I moved here (to KL) back in 2008, I really didn't have any idea how I wanted to decorate my home.. but I knew the moment we moved in, we needed to get some dinnerware. I mean, moving out of my mom's place, I can't just take her dinner plates and all that, right?

Although we haven't bought a gas stove the first week yet, I dragged the husband out to get our silverware and dinner plates because I was sick of eating out of take-away plastic containers! We ate out so much that whole week that I was wondering whether the restaurants would give us restaurant coupons!

Anyways, picking out silverware wasn't as simple a task as I thought it was.. I spent a good half hour calling my mom and asking her which ones I should get as if she was the Silverware Wikipedia (much to my husband's annoyance)! Hehehe..

Nevertheless, in the end, we did manage to get some pretty decent dinnerware and silverware, which we recently have stopped using because my mom ended up lending us one of her Corelle dinnerware sets! I don't know what she means by that.. but I'm grateful all the same! :)

Not A Fan of Heat!

Posted by Shemah Sham | 4/04/2010 04:05:00 AM in | 0 comments

A few months ago, here in Malaysia, we had a pretty bad heatwave. I think Mother Earth was really really pissed because my friends over in the US were complaining about snow storms, then there was the Haiti earthquake, then there was the unbelievable heatwave here on this side of the world.

And just like any cliche, our two ceiling fans just broke down! We called up our landlord and they wanted to fix it but considering it was 2 weeks before Chinese New Year, they wanted to wait until AFTER. Oh gosh .. it was the worst 3 weeks of the year! It wasn't like they had to replace our fans with Minka Aire fans or something.

In the end, we got a temporary standing fan. Also like any other terrible cliche, just when we bought our temporary fan, the landlord came knocking the very next day.

It's just like when you need to find the other half of your sock. You'll always find it when you already bought another pair. ketukmeje Anyways, that's enough ranting for now. I've gotta get back to work!

The Perfect Plan

Posted by Shemah Sham | 4/01/2010 10:31:00 AM in ,| 0 comments

For a while now I've been contemplating of moving my blog which currently resides at Today(dot)com to it's own domain and own web hosting. My other blogs are currently hosted by Blogger, which I love, but I know for my entertainment or fashion blog, I would need a hosting plan that would give me unlimited storage, unlimited bandwidth as well as the use of subdomains which Blogger certainly does not offer.

The plan to move to a Wordpress blog and purchase a webhosting plan that suits all my needs has been made for a few months now but I just haven't found the perfect plan until now. Even my blogging buddy LadyJava has made the move already.

The main reason why I need to move out from Today(dot)com is due to the fact that I don't have freedom of editing my posts and no freedom of putting up ads or even simple widgets that contain ads. You must be wondering why I hosted my blog with them, huh?

Well, in the beginning, those who signed up with a VIP blogger account will get a compensation of $1 per post (limited to 1 post a day), on top of being paid for traffic hits. Then eventually, they stopped paying the $1 per post and just paid for traffic. Currently, even that is pulled to a stop. So now you can only earn 50% of the Google adsense earnings..

It's not that I think it's all about the money but the fact that I'm earning a pittance coupled with no freedom to edit my own posts a week after it's published, or putting up my favorite widgets, it just simply is not worth it. Some of my friends at Today(dot)com like Bill and Debbie have also moved to blog on their own domain as well. Which I have to say is a really good move.

I would definitely make the leap to move my entertainment and fashion blog but with all the things going on in my life and everything else in between, I'm not sure I have the time at this moment. One thing's for sure, though, I am SOOOO EXCITED at the thought of getting my web hosting plan and move ASAP!
